Data Governance Policies

University System of Georgia

Provides guidance to USG organizations in meeting the fundamental requirements for data governance and management to ensure data security, effective use, and compliance with relevant laws and policies. USG organizations may include additional roles, responsibilities, policies, and protocols as needed to fit local context or promote best practices. These provisions apply to information systems maintained by, or on behalf of, USG organizations.

Records Management by each University System of Georgia Institution is critical to allow ongoing compliance with federal and state law, including the Georgia Records Act (O.C.G.A. 50-18-90 et seq.), and to meet requirements of external entities, such as accrediting bodies. The University System Office Legal Affairs administers the Records Management Program for USG and provides information and training in conjunction with the Georgia Archives.
