At the University of North Georgia Department of Public Safety, a campus victim advocate is available to provide assistance to students, employees, and members of the University community. This advocate helps individuals navigate University resources and systems, as well as identify available resources and options for reporting crimes, seeking medical attention, or obtaining additional support services.
The Campus Victim Advocate is dedicated to serving your best interests and aims to empower you to make informed decisions during difficult times.

- Receive emotional support.
- Understand your rights.
- Find counseling services, on or off campus.
- Connect with community advocacy services that best serve you and your area.
- Get the medical resources you need (such as a Sexual Assault Exam).
- Get assistance filing a police report.
- Get connected with appropriate campus services (e.g., food pantry, advising, financial aid, Dean of Students etc.).
- Take the necessary steps to seek approval for excused absences or hardship withdrawal as it relates to your event.
- Get oriented in a courtroom setting.
- Be more comfortable with courtroom proceedings by attending with you, keeping you informed on the process, and talking with the prosecuting attorney about your feelings on the case.
- Facilitate a safety plan (including class changes or residence hall changes, etc).
