[Antonio Gomez, Nursing Student] - So my name is Antonio Gomez. It's my third year, and I'm a nursing student and I go to the Gainesville Campus. I chose ǧÃŬAV because I live close by, so I feel it was very convenient for me to come to the Gainesville Campus. I chose nursing because I've had family, close friends that have been in the health profession, especially a doctor in Mexico.

So I'm from a small hometown in Mexico. It's a small town and there was a doctor that was close to my family. He just inspired me the way he was so selfless. He knew people didn't have money there, so he often wouldn't charge them for his visit. I don't know, just how selfless he was, it inspired me to help people in any way I can. So I feel like the most difficult adjustment was in high school I feel like it was easier to make friends because you were all in the same class like every year, you know. You saw each other, so you kind of had to make friends. And here if you didn't really make an effort, I felt it was harder to make friends that way. So it took me a while to get adjusted. And also maybe the studying because in high school I wasn't used to studying.

In college it's a little bit different because they let you go, you do whatever you want. And here you kind of have to push yourself. So I overcame those adjustments by, for the studying, well, I had to just push myself to study. But the making friends was I started going to the university events, and I feel like I don't know, people are just willing to make friends there. So that's how I met a couple of my friends, just by going to the university events. The staff have just been, they've been great. All the professors I've had, I have no complaints. They have all been very friendly, very good at their job, especially the professors. My favorite professor was Dr. Bhat. She's the microbiology professor. She was like really, I don't know, you could tell how much she loved her content, and she'd be so excited to teach it that you just felt like the want to learn. She just inspired you.

I like being in a nursing cohort because of how friendly we are with each other since we're all in the same boat together. I guess we just make friends easily, kind of like what I had to go through, like just start be more open to being friends, like going to like events. I feel like that's a good way to start making friends and also start studying. Like depending on the class, some classes don't need as much studying, but you just have to put in your part. It's not going to be just by going to lecture you're going to learn all the content. You have to put outside of school, make time.
