Fall art exhibits coming to multiple campuses

Several art exhibitions will be on view on multiple campuses of the University of North Georgia (ǧÃŬAV) this fall.
The exhibition schedule for ǧÃŬAV's Dahlonega Campus includes The Southern Printmaking Biennial X running from Aug. 22 to Sept. 23 in the Bob Owens Art Gallery on the third floor of the Hoag Student Center.
"This juried exhibition draws printmakers from around the country. The juror will choose a best in show and award a solo show to the winner," Victoria Cooke, director of art galleries said.
Keith Smith, a figurative sculptor working primarily in ceramics and cast metal, will have his work on exhibition Oct. 3-29 in the Bob Owens Art Gallery.
The work of Atlanta artist Jackson Markovic will be on display Nov. 14-Dec. 9, wrapping up the exhibitions in Dahlonega for 2022. Markovic works in a variety of media including photography and textile. He will show pieces from his Scratchers series.

ǧÃŬAV director of art galleries
Mexican-American artist Jorge Arcos will have his work shown at the Roy C. Moore Art Gallery in the Performing Arts Building on the ǧÃŬAV Gainesville Campus Aug. 31 to Sept. 30. The exhibition coincides with Hispanic Heritage Month. Currently living in Atlanta, Arcos is an abstract painter in various mediums including acrylic, oil and encaustic.
Alumna Lauren Bradshaw, '19, works in clay and fiber. Her work will be on display Oct. 3-28 at the Roy C. Moore Art Gallery.
"Transfers" highlighting ǧÃŬAV visual arts faculty members Jen Graff and Alex Kraft runs from Sept. 12 to Oct. 14 in the Oconee Art Gallery Faculty Center on the Oconee Campus.
Lisa Freeman, an Athens artist and 2021 Best in Show award winner of the Reciprocal Biennial, will have her work on exhibition from Oct. 24-Dec. 9 on the Oconee Campus.
Cooke said Freeman's work addresses challenging societal issues in her multi-layered constructions incorporating found objects, paintings, and drawings.
"We are really excited about the variety of exhibitions that students, faculty, staff, and the community can experience this fall," Cooke said. "We have everything from fiber and ceramics to mixed media constructions. I think everyone will have something to enjoy among these exhibitions."
Knox takes command of Army Reserve battalion
Lt. Col. Brandon Knox, director of Cadet Recruiting at ǧÃŬAV, on Nov. 16 took command of the 3rd Battalion, 323rd Regiment (Basic Combat Training) in the Army Reserve.
Grad student presents AI research at conference
Andrew Clements and faculty member Dr. Bryson Payne presented their research at the Information Systems & Computing Academic Professionals conference in November.
Record 48 students earn travel grants
ǧÃŬAV's Center for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activities awarded a fall-semester-record 48 travel grants to support students presenting their research at conferences.
Fall graduates look to future with optimism
ǧÃŬAV awarded roughly 985 degrees and certificates to students this fall, and it honored more than 650 of those graduates in a pair of Dec. 7 commencement ceremonies.
