The University of North Georgia (ǧÃŬAV) continued its winning ways Sept. 8 at the Atlanta Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival at Lake Lanier Olympic Park in Gainesville, Georgia.
A team made up mostly of ǧÃŬAV faculty, staff and students finished first in the collegiate division and 13th of 53 teams overall in the 200-meter race.
It was ǧÃŬAV's sixth year in the race, and this was the third year in a row a ǧÃŬAV team finished as the top collegiate division team. ǧÃŬAV posted a time of 1:01.97.
"Our combination of students, staff and faculty make the ǧÃŬAV team truly representative of the institution," said Dr. Christopher Jespersen, team captain and dean of the College of Arts and Letters. "What makes a team successful is the ability to work together. It's been a genuine honor and a real pleasure to organize the group."
The dragon boat team included: Jespersen, Julie Higbee, Anastasia Haack, Katie Beccue, DeEnna Walters, Michele Hill, Claire Allinson, Steve Lloyd, David Marling, Kristin Keefer, Sean Mullins, Mike Proulx, Jon Beall, Richard Byers, Gene Van Sickle, Steve Smith, Michael Rifenburg, Gabe Fankhauser, Neal Lin, and Johnny Kahn.
