DeEnna Walters, executive director of auxiliary and related units at the University of North Georgia (ǧÃŬAV), recently received the 2017 National Association of College Auxiliary Services (NACAS) South Regional Rising Star Award.

Eligibility criteria for nominees include three years in auxiliary services, a current institutional member of NACAS, and demonstration of leadership qualities commensurate with professional advancement.

"I was unaware I had been nominated. I was completely shocked and honored to be recognized. I sincerely appreciate the dedicated auxiliary staff at ǧÃŬAV and the leadership of Associate Vice President of Auxiliary Services and Real Estate Gerald Sullivan," Walters said.

Walters led an innovative effort to reduce ǧÃŬAV's annual finance burden and increase the number of parking spaces on campus, with a concept to refinance an existing $27 million 2007-era bond and incorporate it into $11 million in new money to construct a needed structured parking facility.

"With 18,000 students, ǧÃŬAV is the fastest growing institution in the University System of Georgia (USG), but DeEnna successfully developed the concept, developed a design and finance consensus, and gained support of the USG central authority," Sullivan said.
