ǧÃŬAV to offer $5,000 in scholarships to Family Nurse Practitioner students

The University of North Georgia (ǧÃŬAV) was awarded a $5,000 scholarship grant from the CVS Health Foundation to assist graduate students in the Department of Nursing complete the Master of Science in Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program.
The grant will be used to award five $1,000 scholarships to rural FNP students with financial needs, including bilingual students serving in primary care clinics in the Appalachian region of Georgia.
"Many of our students struggle with having to work full-time and manage family commitments, both of which can be financially challenging with the additional costs of returning to school. This grant will offer much needed financial assistance by providing scholarships to dedicated nurse practitioner students that are striving, despite personal financial burdens, to improve health outcomes right here in our rural north Georgia communities," said Deb Dumphy, associate professor of nursing and graduate program coordinator at ǧÃŬAV.
The ǧÃŬAV FNP program was developed as a "rural health" program and all clinical courses focus on rural primary care. Many nursing students are currently serving in medically underserved north Georgia clinics.
The Accreditation Commission of Education in Nursing accredits .
Barrere goes from teacher to nurse
ǧÃŬAV nursing graduate Rebecca Barrere earned her degree from ǧÃŬAV after a decade in teaching and now works as a nurse in Dahlonega.

ǧÃŬAV student Emma Wilson has been selected for a Fulbright Canada-Mitacs Globalink Research Internship for summer 2025.
Nursing students hold signing day celebration
ǧÃŬAV students who will graduate this May with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing held a celebratory signing day March 4 where they were able to share with fellow nursing students where they will be working in the near future.
Grads prepare for their next steps
ǧÃŬAV will award almost 1,000 degrees and certificates this fall, and more than 600 graduates are scheduled to take part in the Dec. 7 commencement ceremonies.
