Concerned about finding a job? Learn from Adam Patrick's success story…

What kinds of things did you do while in college to prepare you for your professional life after college, or to make yourself more marketable?

I started searching thoroughly for a full- time position the beginning of Spring my senior year. Through LinkedIn, Indeed.com, North Georgia Career Services, and other outlets, I underwent 10 plus interviews for qualifying companies. Companies were aware of my graduation date even when I was interviewing in March. I built up my resume using Career Services and attending seminars to help improve my resume. I began with job interviews that I was less interested in so that I could improve my ability to be successful in an interview.

How did you hear about (or find) your current position?

I heard about my position from the North Georgia Career Fair in the Spring of 2013. After handing my resume to American Hole ‘N One (AHNO), I began a series of interviews with the company. After 3 interviews, one of which was the VP and CEO of the company, I was offered the position in late April.

What advice would you like to give to current students to help prepare them for careers and/or the job search after college?

You can never start searching too soon. There are opportunities all over the place. Be open and interested. You can never search too much or have too many interviews. The worst that could happen is no offer. Use your resources such as Career Services, professors, advisors. They are always open to help and eager to get you ready for the real world.
